Dr David Porter
MB BS DipESM MSc
Sport & Exercise Medicine Doctor
Dr David Porter is a Founding Director of Opus and a senior sport and exercise medicine physician specialising in orthobiologics. He oversees the clinical team and leads the development of our stem cell service.
His key roles at Opus include:
- Founding Director
- Clinical lead for stem cell treatment
- Clinical oversight of the specialist team
Dr Porter treats sports injuries, joint pain including osteoarthritis, muscle strains and sprains, and tendon problems. A strong advocate for treating these without surgery wherever possible, he uses platelet rich plasma, hyaluronic acid injections and mesenchymal stem cell therapy to treat problems that would once have gone straight to the operating theatre. He brought allogeneic mesenchymal stem cell therapy to the UK, working with the regulatory bodies to establish it safely.
Every patient starts with a comprehensive assessment covering blood biomarkers, imaging, performance testing and a full musculoskeletal examination, so the treatment plan fits the person as well as the condition. He also leads our health screening and pre-signing medicals.
Dr Porter qualified from University College London Medical School and trained in emergency and intensive care medicine before joining Chelsea FC as Club Doctor in 2011, becoming Men’s First Team Doctor in the 2015/16 season. He studied sport and exercise medicine in the UK and Europe, served on the faculty of the FA’s pitch-side emergency medicine courses, and worked with the FA, UEFA and FIFA on player health and safety. A decade at the top of professional football now shapes how he treats every patient at Opus.

Dr Porter was superb, I attended Opus following a recommendation from a friend and have been blown away by the level of care I have received. I have a complex medical history and have seen various experts and Dr Porter was able to very quickly rationalise all of the information into a very clear plan.
