Podiatric Sports Performance

We are passionate about keeping people moving.

Whether you are an elite athlete or an active individual, maintaining optimal foot and ankle health and lower limb function is critical to enjoying an healthy lifestyle.

Podiatry deals specifically with the health of your feet and lower limbs; and can cover treatment for common foot problems such as blisters and verruca through to the detection, diagnosis and corrective treatment of more complex issues arising from injury or disease. Podiatric medicine can also be used to prevent the onset of serious conditions by correcting imbalances and irregularities.

What can we help with?

Our podiatrist can also supply orthotes, which are tailor-made insoles, padding and arch supports to relieve arch or heel pain. Orthotic devices are inserted into your shoe to re-align your foot, taking pressure off vulnerable areas of your foot, or simply to make your shoes more comfortable.

Even if your feet are generally in good condition, you might consider having a single session of podiatry to have the hard skin on your feet removed, toenails clipped, to find out if you’re wearing the right shoes (take your shoes with you for specific advice on footwear) or just to check that you’re looking after your feet properly.

Podiatric Biomechanical Assessment

During a consultation, a biomechanical analysis of your lower limb will be completed to see how they function dynamically in relation to the rest of your body.

Biomechanical assessments of the lower limb are used to identify the site and source of pain. During your consultation, dynamic and static assessments will be undertaken to look at the mechanical nature of your injury.

Video gait analysis (walking and running) will be used to analyse forces of movement in the body and identify discrepancies that can highlight the source of pain and cause of injury.

Foot Orthoses

A custom foot orthoses is designed to enhance how your foot functions and may be prescribed to alleviate pain, improve performance, aid lower limb function, increase shock absorption and in prevention of lower limb injuries.

Foot orthoses can be used to treat foot, ankle, knee, hip and lower back pain. The device is unique to the anatomy of your foot and is designed carefully to fit comfortably in your footwear.

Sport Specific Management

Our podiatrist has experience working with sports athletes and helping them recover from injury and improve function. Sport specific foot orthoses are designed for running, cycling, sports boots (football and rugby), tennis, golf, ski boots and more. Linking the biomechanics with the orthotic prescription and appropriate footwear will be discussed with your podiatrist to give you optimal foot and ankle recovery.

Bracing Therapy

The Richie Brace is an Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO) which is worn on the lower leg and foot to support the ankle structures whilst minimising rotational forces. The Richie brace is used to treat a wide variety of foot and ankle pathologies such as drop foot, posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, adult acquired flat foot, chronic ankle instability, ankle and subtalar degenerative joint disease and other ankle injuries. The construction of the brace allows good shoe fit, reduction in pain and continuation of movement and exercise.
