How can I access Opus' Sports Medicine services?

You can self refer or ask your GP, specialist, physiotherapist or personal trainer.

What's the process?

  2. Potential investigations needed to confirm your diagnosis will be discussed, and you may be asked to undergo blood tests or imaging such as ultrasound, X-ray, CT, or MRI scans.
  3. Following the review of your diagnostic results, Dr. Porter will collaborate with you and our team to devise a management plan tailored to your personal goals and schedule.
  4. This management plan will be coordinated with your existing support network, including physiotherapists, osteopaths, nutritionists, and personal trainers, to ensure a holistic approach to care.
  5. Throughout your rehabilitation, your progress will be monitored, with Dr. Porter performing follow-up assessments and any necessary serial investigations in coordination with the Opus sports medicine team.
  6. If a referral to a specialist, such as an orthopaedic surgeon, becomes necessary, it will be arranged to ensure you receive comprehensive care.

Professor Sanjay Sharma BSc(Hons), MD, FESC

Professor of Cardiology St George’s, University of London St George’s Hospital NHS Trust, London

Professor Sanjay Sharma, a renowned expert in Sports Cardiology, qualified at Leeds University and trained in London. He is the Medical Director for the Virgin London Marathon and a Consultant Cardiologist for Cardiac Risk in the Young.

He also serves as Cardiologist for the British Lawn Tennis Association, Cardiology Advisor for the English Institute of Sport and Cardiology Advisor for the FA.

Notably, he served as the lead cardiologist for the London 2012 Olympics and has published over 400 scientific articles. Professor Sharma was awarded the Viviane Conraads Outstanding Achievement Award by the European Society of Cardiology in 2015 and a Doctorate from Aristotle University in 2017.
