Osteopathy

Osteopathy Services at Opus

Explore osteopathy at Opus for tailored treatments designed to optimise your health and well-being.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy is a non-invasive, drug-free form of therapy that is effective across a broad spectrum of health conditions. It aims to enhance overall health by strengthening the body’s musculoskeletal framework.

Osteopathy involves manual ‘hands-on’ techniques to boost circulation and correct biomechanical imbalances, ensuring the smooth interplay of the skeleton, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues which is essential for optimal well-being.

How Osteopathy Can Help

Our osteopaths are trained to identify conditions that may require referral to other specialists such as sports medicine physicians, physiotherapists, and orthopaedics.

However, osteopathic treatments can offer relief from a variety of issues, including:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Neuralgia
  • Whiplash
  • Minor sports injuries
  • Sciatica
  • Pain in the feet, ankles, knees, and hips
  • Work-related musculoskeletal problems
  • Headaches
  • Joint pains in the upper and lower body
  • Postural issues

Meet the Specialists

Our osteopathy service at Opus is expertly led by Adam Bourjij, our lead osteopath. Adam practices at our clinic in King Edward VII Hospital, London. He started his osteopathy education in France and later earned his qualifications from the University College of Osteopathy in London. Adam has applied his expertise to treat athletes from various sports, even extending his care to Team GB Olympians and professional footballers. His background is further enriched by a degree in sports massage, enhancing his holistic approach to patient care.

Whether you’re dealing with an acute injury, need pre or post-operative rehabilitation, require long-term management of a condition, or seek performance-related assistance, Adam and our osteopathy team provide the comprehensive support you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can't find the answer to your question? Get in touch with our friendly team for prompt, personalised support and information.

Is osteopathy safe?
Yes, osteopathy is safe. The treatment involves non-invasive and gentle methods, including relaxed movements, mobilisation and manipulation of joints, along with soft tissue massage. These approaches have been proven to be remarkably safe, as they do not involve surgery or drugs. Before beginning your personalised treatment programme, we will explain any possible risks and address any concerns you may have. Osteopathic care has successfully helped millions of people maintain and improve their health over many years.
Is osteopathy painful?
Osteopathy treatments are generally not painful. Some techniques may cause discomfort during or immediately after the session, especially if the treated area is already inflamed or severely restricted. However, these sensations are usually temporary. Osteopaths aim to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, and any discomfort should be balanced against the relief and mobility that follows.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of osteopathy treatments required varies depending on the individual’s condition and response to treatment. While some patients might feel improvement after just a few sessions, others with more chronic or complex issues may require a longer course of treatment. Your osteopath will tailor a treatment plan to your specific needs and adjust it as necessary based on your progress.
Will I feel better immediately?
Some patients experience immediate relief after their osteopathy session, while others may notice improvements gradually over a series of sessions. The response to treatment can vary depending on the individual and the nature of the condition being treated. It’s common to experience some soreness for a day or two after treatment as your body adjusts and begins to heal.
What happens at an osteopathy appointment?
An osteopathy appointment typically begins with a detailed consultation where the osteopath will take a comprehensive medical history and may ask questions about your lifestyle and diet. This is followed by a physical examination where the osteopath assesses your posture, mobility, and areas of tenderness or tension. Based on the examination, the osteopath will perform specific osteopathic treatments which may include manipulation, mobilisation of joints, and soft tissue techniques. The session usually concludes with advice on exercises or lifestyle adjustments to aid your recovery.
